Skin Cancer (including Melanoma)

Australia has the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world. The most common are basal cell cancer, squamous cell cancer, and melanoma. Each type of tumour has different subtypes. Each needs to be treated differently. Fortunately, nearly all skin cancers are curable if treated early and appropriately.

There are many different ways of treating a primary skin cancer. Surgery is the most common. Other treatment options can include, ointment, dry ice, photodynamic therapy and radiotherapy.

A/Prof Ferris treats hundreds of patients a year for skin cancer. Patients receive a detailed assessment and an extensive discussion about treatment options. Following treatment patients have further review, and planning of future skin surveillance.

If you have a known or suspected skin cancer, A/Prof Ferris would be pleased to discuss your options and treatment. He would encourage a consultation as early as is possible. Early intervention in many cases means less complicated treatment and an earlier return to normal life.
