Hand Surgery

Diseases of the hand are common in our community. They cause significant pain and dysfunction, and impairment of both vocational and recreational pursuits.

Common elective hand problems include carpal tunnel syndrome, Dupuytren’s disease, trigger finger or thumb, arthritis or joint pain, ganglia, and solid tumours. A/Prof Ferris can assess and treat all of these conditions.

Emergency conditions of the hand are varied from minor fingertip trauma and simple lacerations, to complex crushing, avulsing, or amputating injuries. A/Prof Ferris can see and treat patients with these conditions through his private practice, and also at the Alfred hospital.

It is common after diseases or injuries to the hand that rehabilitation is undertaken, which typically includes hand therapy. A/Prof Ferris uses a hand therapy team who are experienced, work closely with him, and are available to assist in a timely fashion.
